(iv) There are still about 40 Chinese gendarmes left in KOWLOON and it appears that they intend to stay for the move of the 8th Army. A certain ount of trouble has been caused by their interference with the affairs of XOLLOON und strong representations have been made to have then removed from the Colony, Ls they have been openly telling the Chinese that they are there to enforce law and order.

3. LOCAL AFF: IRS

(1) Describing himself as a delegate of the KUƠNINTANG to the Senan's Union, 2010 NOW branch, a Chinese called ONG CHUN CLUBG called recently on the Civil Police Special Branch. Te ptoted that he arrived in HONG KONG OL September 30th with instructions from Ir. YBUG FU, delegate of the Central Goverment Inspectorate and concurrently in charge of the Executive Comittee of the speciul section of the Chinese NO ZT 10 for Chinese secmor.'s affairs. He produced a letter of appointment from YEUNG FU dated August 30th 1st. His intention is to register and reopen the Secah's Union in ANUNG province, including HONG KONG, but so far as he limows, his appointment (insofar as his activities affect the Colony) has not bell communicated to the british Embassy for approval.

The question of the Seman's Union is under extinction by the Labour Office of Civil Affairs.

(ii) Lt. Cen. CHAN IK MAN, a survivor from the Chinese H.V. "CING CLEUNG", which sank while en route from 3MATOW to CATON, arrived in the Colony on October 28th accompanied by another officer and two military attendants. On his card the General is described as "Commer 7th War Zone, Inspection Commissioner of the 5th Tolitical District, KANGTUNG"

is en route to CATHON. During his stay in HOT KONG he intends to call on Fr. SLA CHIT SOFT of the KUOLINT. MG.

(iii) During the week the Summary Military Court convicted two Chinese, named LI YAU and JEG HOI-CHG, of being in

TJRG unlawful possession of certain arns and azmulition. These two men had been arrested on October 6th in the course of the raids carried out by the police in com sction with the activities in the Colony of the KUO IFANG, referred to i. eekly Intelligence Surary No. 5 under the heading "Local .ffairs", It is known that on the authority of a letter writtel. in the lame of Mr. SHAM CHIT SON, LI YAU had been exercising extortion on civilians in KO LOON, This was confirmed by Maj. Gen. 3.K. YEE, specicl Military Representative in HONG KOI of the Central Chinese Government. SHUI CHIT SON, for his part, denied permitting LI YAU to exercise the authority that the latter clained from him. The other culprit, TONG HOI-CHUA', was associated with LI YAU in his nefarious activities.

(iv) KUSUO KAMOKASU is a Japanese character now safely lodged in WAITFIELD Burracks. For harbouring his person in their roon 12 ZONG KONG, two Chinese females were sentenced during the week at the Sunary lilitery Court. It is knOWIN that one of the two females was a kept voran of the Japanese in question, while the other was the wife of another Japanese. Their motive in harbouring KISUO KNOPASU, who was found locked up in their room when the police raided tile place, may be described as personal.
